“Barbra Streisand is one of my favorite singers! I love to sing her songs because her repertoire goes well with my voice. However, I didn’t know From dream to dreamnor its original version in English, evergreen leaves. However, I think it’s a fantastic coincidence that I sang a song from the movie at my audition. A star has been bornpremiered in 2018 and in which Lady Gaga acts, and thatevergreen leaves either a song from the soundtrack of the 1976 version of the film. full circle.”
Oliver: Jenny by Richard Desjardins
“I knew Richard Desjardins well, but had never heard his song Jenny before they offered me to record it on the album of star academy. The first time I heard it, though, I was a bit confused. It has a very serious tone, and I admit that I did not know very well how to translate it to its fair value. The directorial team and I finally decided to up the tone of my performance. Thanks to this decision, I really feel that Jenny has become my song. I live the lyrics singing them as if I had written them. I have to say that Jenny It’s a love song that reflects very well my emotions when I’m in love.”
Yannick: I’m still thinking about you by Sylvain Cossette
“I didn’t know this song, but I liked it immediately when I heard it. At first, I envisioned it as a heartbreak song, but the more I listened to it, the more the lyrics reminded me of my grandfather. He died 10 years ago, and certain verses reminded me of his departure. He was sick and I didn’t see him in the last week of his life, so I couldn’t say goodbye to him properly. I blamed myself for a long time, because I was so close to him. From this angle, I’m still thinking about you It affects me personally.”
Julian: Sensuality by Axelle Red
“I love the song Sensuality, of which he had done a moving version, almost Motown, at the CEGEP. She was confident when I recorded it for the album, as she had previously worked with director Benjamin Nadeau. Knowing me well, she imagined a perfect environment for me. Sensuality It’s a very sexy song, even intimate. Whether I sing it alone in the studio or in front of a large crowd, I always think of my boyfriend when I perform it, as if we were alone in the world. I was really impressed with the quality of the recording material on the Mixbus. It was a great experience.”
Eloi: This is life by Chuck Berry
I knew the song This is lifenot Chuck Berry’s version, but the Salebarbes group’s version on their album salt water gin. Recording it was a nice nod, because I had chosen to perform a Salebarbes song in the Final Audition and that allowed me to enter the Academy directly. It was my first time recording a song, and doing it on the Mixbus made the experience really beautiful and special. I was a bit intimidated getting on the bus, but the directors quickly put me at ease. It allowed me to concentrate on my pleasure in singing a song like This is lifeTotally my style.”
Laura: die on stage by Dalida
“The first time I heard this song was when Flora Stein performed it in the semifinals of the voice 8. The text is so strong! This piece speaks of such a deep passion for the stage that we would like to end our days there. Since the melody is quite complex, I had to listen to it often to make it my own. Fortunately, Andréanne A. Malette, who produced my song, was a good adviser to me during the recording. She designed a version that suits me very well.”
Sarah Maude: different when i sing by maurane
“This song lifts me up a lot. As the lyrics express, I really feel different when I sing. It’s only behind a microphone that I feel like I can show my true colors. Although it wasn’t my first studio recording, I found it impressive to have to do it on the Mixbus. Fortunately, the directors quickly put me at ease. As Maurane was an exceptional singer, it is very important for me to pay tribute to her just value.
Marily: the answering machine roommates

«the answering machine it is a very intimate text that Dédé Fortin wrote shortly before his suicide. I wondered if I would be able to convey such strong emotions, I who had never known depression until now. However, I remembered the words of Guylaine Tremblay, who told us: “A drop of water in the ocean is still the ocean”. So I reconnected with my darkest emotions. However, it is very important for me to keep a ray of hope in my performance.
sandrina: on the skin by Marie Carmen
“I took advantage of Marie Carmen’s presence on the show to tell her that I was going to record one of her songs on the album. She was really happy, even honored. I really like the energy that emanates from on the skinI naturally love to sing pieces that move you. As for the director Toby Gendron, he gave me some good advice: in particular, he showed me how to sing the endings of certain verses.

“I didn’t know anything Winter Gardenbut now I love it! I love the vibe of this song, with which I can do a lot of creative things! I may have a softer voice, but I didn’t get a chance to show it off at the Academy. It’s really this sweetness that I use to sing Winter Garden. Sometimes I dare to some more vocally powerful keys, which allows me to show the full range of my voice. Gautier Marinof, the producer of the song, and I prepared a unique version of this song. I will not reveal more to you, I prefer that the public discovers it.
Edward: leave me a place by Julien Clerc
«leave me a place It’s a beautiful song that I didn’t know. However, I realized that he must be the only one in the world who didn’t know about it, because a lot of artists had already covered it. I even heard a version made by Lara Fabian. My big challenge with this piece was to deliver the text in a personal and original way, despite the many repetitions. I loved the Mixbus experience, which is mobile. It’s a fun effect to go from bed to recording studio in a few minutes!
Coast: Until the end of the world by Paul Darache
“I grew up in a country musical universe, so I know Paul Daraîche’s repertoire through my parents. I’m sure it makes them proud to see me record his song. Until the end of the world. It is an honor to represent the country of Quebec. I feel privileged to have Andréanne A. Malette as director. I had dreamed of working with her for a long time. She inspires me because she is an accomplished singer and producer.”
Jeremy: Before leaving by Roch Voisine
“I learned thatBefore leaving It would probably be my song on the album during our hotel lockdown, which gave me time to read and reread the lyrics and think about it. This piece moves me, because I often go out on tour and then I have to say goodbye to the people I love. It was special to record it on the Mixbus. Playing him was still quite natural for me, because my tone is similar to that of Roch Voisine.
Mathieu: woman like you by K.Maro
“I grew up listening to K. Maro. Her songs made me dance in elementary school. So I feel very privileged to come full circle by acting woman like you in the album of star academy. This song gives me an intense feeling of nostalgia. After all, it is one of the pieces that led me to make music. My big challenge with this song is to make a personalized version. It’s so much fun that it can be hard to get out of the original version! I’m sure, because the Mixbus band is very efficient. They know where they’re going.”
Camellia: Ready by Barbara Pravi
“As soon as I heard the song Ready, I loved that. It’s a text song where performance is important, just the way I like it. Also, it seems that the lyrics are telling my story. It is about a singer who wants to make a career, but she only has her voice to offer to succeed. I loved recording it on the Mixbus, unlike other studios I’ve worked at. It was fun, because since I’m very tall, I had to sing while sitting on a stool so as not to hit my head.
